I've had mine now since July 08, i've ridden Afan a couple of times and no problems at all, the lads from (And Ian i would like to say) from the cafe & bike shop at Afan took the piss when i turned up as they claimed to have seen a "few" breakages now on the 575, i'm not convinced, just a bad batch i think!
Get one.........they are fantastic to ride!!

Its always funny to me how one breakage can appear on say, 4-5 forums and all of a sudden people think.....
Every Forum I go on there is mention of this 'problem'.
Just buy the bike you like the most! Yeti always seem to look after their customer base very well.
Otherwise Yetifan & the MTBR Yeti forums would not be so popular.

Very true andrew!
If you want to see the same effect on another brand, try searching for Santa Cruz Nomad (the first version has a rocker eyelet in the top tube that can crack and pull out, the number of same references to it would make you think that all Nomads will do this immediately, not true they have had a few obviously but it does cause scare mongering)

As the starter of this thread, I feel I have to add my few pennies worth. Since getting my carbon rear replace by the guys at Two Wheels, My riding has gone from strength to strength. I have taken bigger hits than ever before and racked up twice as many miles as I did before my breakage. I'm still riding the same trail's in the same way and there is not even the slightest sign of any damage. The rear even survived some little scrotums trying to steal the bike from my shed. Don't worry about the carbon 575, even with a broken back it was still more bike than you will probably ever need. I love this bike and would not trade it for the world. My little blip, if anything, has brought me closer to my steed.
Buy one they are awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have the 575 with the carbon rear end too and have given it some stick over the last 18 months .. I'm also about 16 stone (although I don't think I'm clumsy) but have had no issues at all.
I won't throw it (or myself) off stuff that some of you better or younger riders will, but I would recommend it to anyone. Fabulous bike ....

I am new to this forum but I like how a problem was found, solved and a person with no idea of what he was talking about had it handed to him.I have worked with racing teams in snow X,moto x and atv racing and riding and carbon products of all kinds have improved the quality and safety not to mention the speed of all sports. This rider who thinks carbon is flimsy and weak probably said 15 years ago that steel frames are here to stay and lightweight aluminum will break if you ride it off the paved roads.

In Reply to most of these opinions yes carbon is great! I have mentioned before that I have had a complete failure on the chainstay. But have since found on youtube that it is suggested if you are over 180 pounds you should go for the carbon /alloy rear end!And if under this weight you should be fine with carbon!but Yeti does not mention this fact incase of possible slumping sales for the carbon/carbon. Hence the reason why they offer both options but otherwise do not state the reasons! Naturaly people will pay the extra for the carbon thinking if they are as good as each other why not!Its lighter! just punch in Yeti 575 on youtube for the yeti 575 review! Still a great bike. and I love it now I have the alloy/ carbon rear end!

If Yeti don't state a weight limit for the full carbon rear then it's because they have found in all their hours/months of R&D that they don't need to have one. Just because someone on Youtube says it it doesn't mean it's fact.
Anyway, glad you are liking the bike with the alloy/carbon rear.

So why offer both options if the carbon is as good??

Maybe the reason is Cost, the AS-R always used to come with an Alu rear, and the carbon was an upgrade to the price/spec.
Maybe because some people are not convinced with carbon, so they still offer the Alu version as a smart sales move?
I'm sure there is a reason.

I was worried about rocks bouncing off the carbon chinstays but i was given a tip to cut an old inner tube in lengths and over lap each turn over the carbon area's. The rubber inner tube can be a good lightweight protector for the carbon, secure with zip ties.

Hi guys, I'm a freshly new member. Waiting for my 575 full carbon back in team color to arrive(another 2 weeks time I hope). Since Indonesia just had a shop(Formula Bike) importing it from KSH Malaysia, I'm a bit worried about the cracks now after reading those... I'm a little worried if I broke mine it would be a hell of a waiting time for them to replace me a new one(I strongly believe that Yeti will surely replace one, heard lot of great stuff for Yeti's customer service). Could you guys, or someone out there, or Andrew maybe could ease my mind bit? Thanks guys...I really appreciate it (Still hope that it won't happen to me since I have been dreaming about my team color 575 since I laid eyes on it...coolest bike ever...merely state of the art) Dear Yeti fans, Hi... I'm xto again and my worries came true....sadly My carbon chain stay cracked !!! Frame no. 950161M...already registered to yetifan.com The bike wasn't completely finished (still a borrowed fork) coz I'm still waiting for my Talas 32 150 travel 15QR in white to arrive...that's the reason why I have not upload my bike built. I have no idea at all what is the cause of it since I have only ridden it a few times (it's darn hard to collect all the parts together here) and no extreme trails at all... The sag is ok...and everything was set up correctly... But the great news is...I found out the crack on last Saturday morning, give a call to the one and only Yeti retailer in Jakarta, Indonesia (Formula Bike) and get a brand new carbon end straight away...no questions asked at all The best after sales service bicycle shop....two thumbs up for Formula Bike. I'm still worried that it might happen again though...I mean, it was an awesome bike all the while...the ride was superb...I was always smiling when I rode it...but now it just gave me lesser confidence in future riding, especially if I got into a rock garden or some extreme trails. I will inform Yeti cycles and hopefully they will find out the reason behind it and hopefully check for me the replacement I got wasn't from the same batch as my previous one. Wish me luck guys.... Cheers for Formula Bike, Xto
