In answer to Andrews comment of progresive breakidge on the chainstay. It did completely fail with a snap! Im sure a lot of you guys are happy with carbon but this was the first real MTB I had owned with carbon on it! So needlles to say I am now very wary. so much so I have informed my yeti dealer to replace the back end on my 575 with the alloy carbon Item which sucks because it is that bit heavier, but rather that than a failing bike whilst tackling a heavy decent!

For the record, the Alu version still has the carbon stay parts. There is a number on the underside of the chainstay, what was it? Just wondering if there is a batch of them or if yours is a one off?

Its away at shop at the mo Andrew. But as it seems by the pics the fault seems to crack at the drive side chainstay exactly the same spot as mine and the same crack pattern. The alloy carbon rear end still has carbon but alloy chainstays were this fault seems to occur (Will give me better peace of mind!). I feel you may see more of this occurance! I hope not but time will tell!

Sorry, I'm not clear about this. What is an alloy carbon rear end? Is it some mixture of both materials, or what? Not that I'm thinking of getting a new frame, but I'd like to know. As mentioned above I don't trust carbon rear ends.
(no matter what self interested retailers might say.)

The 08 575 comes with a full carbon rear triangle or a alloy/carbon rear end i.e alloy chainstays with carbon seatstays. The full carbon rear end is usualy more expensive. I have now probably lost a hundered pounds now by opting for the alloy/ carbon. but better that than a possible trip to the hospital!

Wasnt there a post on here a while ago about the alloy seat stays bending on the 575?
where it appeared that the weak point of the alloy swingarm bent where the profile of the tube changed from square to round.
As for the Carbon 575, we havent had one returned with a fault, and I havent heard of a batch that was faulty. Though there are people wanting replacement aluminium front ends because they have been dented by bits of wood. And as a retailer I dont have a self interest, none of our customers have heard of Yetifan so we dont sell Yetis to people who simply want a posing bike, just people who want good bikes. Which is why I sell them. (Carbon or alloy)

The alloy chainstays & carbon seatstays seem like a good compromise. I wonder why Yeti offer the alternatives? Do they know something? Nice looking bike in the pic.

I think the 2 options are just down to cost. The first 575's were alloy with a Carbon option, very much like the current model.
I think the Carbons were the first to arrive, so thats why they are the most bought and pictured.

I purchased a 575 yeti 2008 this past April. I love the bike, and used it in several races, and one Adventure Race in Vail. On A October day me and several of my buddies went riding outside of Albuquerque New Mexico. It is a very easy single track ride. I was climbing up some rocks, when I also felt my tire rubbing against the frame. I got off checked the tire and did not see anything. I then rode the bike down a small rock, and i again felt the tire rubbing. I checked the Carbon chainstay, and it was cracked the exact same way "jonnybez" chainstay was cracked. I took it to the shop I bought it from, and they have told me Yeti does not want to replace it. I am very upset right now. If anyone out there has had the same experiences please email me at Pficke@hotmail.com. I am trying to show Yeti several cases, so they will replace mine. I will try to post some pictures soon.

yeah everyone needs to share info if several owners get together just as the honda civic owners in the uk did re a paint fault then the company concerned has to sort it or face the consequence of a very expensive court case p,s, the honda civic owners used the honda owners forum to collate info as well as posing??

Hi guys, I'm a freshly new member. Waiting for my 575 full carbon back in team colour to arrive(another 2 weeks time I hope).
Since Indonesia just had a shop(Formula Bike) importing it from KSH Malaysia, I'm a bit worried about the cracks now after reading those... I'm alittle worried if I broke mine it would be a hell of a waiting time for them to replace me a new one(I strongly believe that Yeti will surely replace one, heard alot of great stuff for Yeti's customer service).
Could you guys, or someone out there, or Andrew maybe could ease my mind abit?
Thanks guys...I really appreciate it (Still hope that it won't happen to me since I have been dreaming about my team colour 575 since I laid eyes on it...coolest bike ever...merely state of the art)

I am no expert, but I've had my 575 with full carbon for 14 months now, I've hit some big stuff with it, nearly had a few crashes from hitting too big rocks, but I try to ride as nice as possible!
I've split too many rear tyres to count, and the rear swing arm is still like new.
I think that there is a few frames that could have a problem, but it really is a handful compared to all the 575's out there.
I have heard of only a couple of cases and seen pics of just one and in all instances Yeti fixed it (apart from the one above- but I never got an update as to what happened).
I honestly would not worry, the 575 is a great bike and you'll love every moment on it.

Like Andrew I've had mine for 12 months and had no problems with the swingarm , and it has taken a good few wacks with large rocks . My Carbon Scott Genius was fine also before that so carbons no more a problem than alloy etc.
