hi there i have just become the privileged owner of a red and black tubed dh-9 ;D just in the process of building her up but have become a bit stumped with the rear brake. i am trying to fit a hope m4( old silver style) but the floating brake arm seems to foul the caliper any tips on what calipers will fit please?

This is a question that keeps popping up.
The floating brake mount is a awkward thing to work with. Mine came fitted with Hope M4's but the newer versions of the ones you describe and fitted perfectly with a little machining I'm sure yours will fit. I know it sounds horrible to have to grind away some of the metal but unfortunately for that brake it's your only option.
Had the brakes have been Hayes etc you could of got round it by fitting a shimano mount the wrong way round and shimmed it out.
Have you got any pics I have'nt seen many red and black DH9's

hi mate i have the mono version of the dh9.
when i bought mine it already had a m4 fitted, but the mount which the brake caliper mounts has been machined away slightly to gain access.
it doesnt sound great having to machine away your new frame to get the brake to fit but it does work and i for one havnt had any problems.
