Hi Folks,
Newbie 2007 ASX owner here ;D
Started building up my lovely frame today with the headset - a Hope 1 1/2 to 1 1/8 inch step down - and found the fit so tight when pressing it that I decided to stop until I'd gotten a second opinion.
The BB shell and disc brake tabs all look faced, so I assumed these frames (my first Yeti) all came fully prepped. Is it common to have to ream out the 1 1/2 inche head tube, or do you think the Hope headset is the culprit? I'm v.reluctant to have the frame reamed to be honest.
Any advice appreciated.
Cheers,
Andy

HI Andy,
Never heard of this before. I would take it to your local bike shop.
I have had 2 AS-X, and both time the headsets went right in.
I would not like to say whats at fault,I am unsure if 1.5 headsets are harder to fit than usual?
Sorry I can't be more help.
Andrew

Hope headsets are really good so if you can get it too fit it's worth it.
did the cups go in absolutely straight? I would reckon on both YETI and HOPE being bang on the money for tolerance so it's important you use a good headset press to get them in square, if it's wonky at all it will bind up and make the job impossible.

Borrowed the shops press and it went in nicely...PHEW
I decided to try the FSA one (cheap) and we'll see how well it works. It's low stack height was a bit of a worry, but the fork knobs only just skiff the downtube, so I've put a rubber bumper on for good measure.
The frame's partially built...sitting on my living room floor taunting me!! Just waiting on the new weight spring to arrive, get that set back up, fit all the new cables and away we go...off to Lake Garda to break (I hope not) it in! ;D
