Hi.
I purchased a secondhand sb66c last year and although the bike is fantastic to ride I have a couple of concerns. I have tried to remove the pivots on the suspension and have been able to remove all but the top one. Seems to be stuck in. From reading a few threads it seems like this is quite a common problem. When I remove the lock bolt and start to screw out the pivot bolt it just pushes the other side of the rear triangle out. I am thinking that the best method to try may be to just undo the pivot bolt a couple of turns, and turn the frame on its side supported in strategic places with some wooden blocks covered in rubber. I am going to turn an aluminium punch / rod to match the threaded end of the pivot bolt and then strike the bolt, not the frame, using the rod to apply force to the pivot bolt. I am hoping that it will push the pivot bolt free. I am going to soak the whole thing in wd40 for a day or two first. Thoughts?
Next concern is that I have found a small crack (hairline) which I am hoping is just in the outer layer of the black surface finish. It seems like the whole frame is covered in an outer coating that is prone to chip off. The frame has a couple of stone chips on the bottom where it is easy to see the separate layer. The crack I have found is is not in one of the places I would expect a frame to fail. It runs along the centre of the tube for about an inch and a half between the bottom of the seat post and the mount for the rear shock on the front triangle. It is very fine and there are no signs of impact or chipping. Are other people finding that the black outer layer is prone to this type of effect?
Steve.
