Hi,
Have any of you had any problems with your ASR Carbon's seat tube's cracking?
I'm absolutely gutted that on my very first ride on a brand new bike i have a crack running vertically down from the cut edge - about 5cm long after riding fairly gently off a kerb onto the road...
The new extendible seat clamp I have doesn't work with the seat cap (as the cap effectively blocks up the tube leaving no space for the extension to slide down into). So without the support of the cap, the tube has to soak up a load of pressure in a pretty vulnerable area. Perhaps the old clamp would be a better choice with the cap in place?
I was very careful to use the correct torque on the bolts and followed the cutting instructions as per the manual...
I'm hoping I can get a new frame under warranty but we shall see!
Your comments and suggestions about the old/new seat clamps and a potential warranty claim welcome.
Thanks
Guy

I think you need to be in contact with your dealer.
FYI, I have not heard of any problems like that.

I havent heard of that problem on a Yeti, though I am looking at a LOOK 595 with the exact same problem.
not sure if its cut roughly, or over tightened on the internal clamp, either way its user error on the LOOK.

Hi
I had a problem with my ASR-C seat clamp, out on a ride last week went over a bump and the carbon clamp split completely at the rear where the two bolts tighten on the seat mast, meaning I had to ride home perched delicately on the saddle nose to stop the mast ending up embedded where the sun don't shine!
Fortunately, the mast is OK but imo there is a design flaw with the original seat clamp assembly as it took Mountain Trax (my local bike store) ages to adjust the replacement so there was no movement once clamped. Top marks to them though as they replaced the clamp straight away, no questions.
It's clear that everything needs to be assembled with care and torqued correctly.

My brother lives in the US and has had the exact same problem - got a new frame on warranty and sold it 'as new' as he didnt want it happening again. Ive heard 575's are cracking on some of the welds too but havent seen any

So that could be a load of rubbish then?
This is an open forum, and I don't delete stuff. But please don't put hearsay on here if you can help it! I heard of a shop selling Santa Cruz for $50, but thats not to say its happening!!

Looks like an issue to take up with the shop it was purchased from - they would need to determine whether product or installation/build fault

Hi,
Having discussed this with the UK importer, we have decided to get the frame fixed by an independent Carbon fiber frame repair shop. They are going to take a mould of the seat cap, re-cast in carbon in order to strengthen the inside of top tube. This should stop the crack getting worse and will provide much more support for clamping.
Obviously i'll now only be able to use the old style clamp (as the new one needs to extend down into the tube) but as long as i can ride my new bike I don't mind!
It has been sent off and is due back next week, so i will let you know how it goes.
