Does anyone who's done it think it would be possible on a 575?

Matt.
I was talking to one of the guys at BB just the other day about this.He said a bike with 7 inches of travel would be your best bet.
happy trails.

Thats interesting to know. I know most people do it on DH bikes, but i'm sure Colin Jones (earthed 3) did it on a Spesh Enduro.
I wont be doing it this year but maybe 2009.

I will be taking my 303 for a go. I understand its a bit too much for the climbs and an AS-X would be better, but thats what I have!
I think my 575 with big tyres and 36's could be the wise choice, but I'd hate to get it smashed up, its my main bike.

Yeah I was thinking a 575 in 'Alpine Spec' might be enough, if a bit rough. Maybe some DH wheels and 36 forks. Probably more enjoyable for the main part on a 303 though, as you say Andrew.

I think its a bit of a gamble if I'll even qualify, its only the first 52 of every 250 that can do the 'mega' race.
There is a second race, or those over half way in the qualifiers just get to ride the track, so I don't think bike is that important as long as it gets you down.

OK, looks like the bestw ay to go is get a group together and get a chalet or large appartment.
Anybody going looking for somewhere to stay? Maybe we can sort out a place together.
Let me know.
Myself, Girlfriend and mate will be there from the Sunday before the mega.

How did we do?
At the 3 Valley race, I came in 67th out of 460. Winning time was 26 mins, I got 32. So was pretty pleased. I hit a bit of traffic, but only about 60 secs worth.
My mate got a bit further back, over 100 I think.
As for the Mega, I had decided that to get to the bottom in 1 part was my aim, and to ride well was my other. (As in no crashes)
I got a 108 in qualifying, so not great, but no accidents. My mate came down in 150+ so not good.
Then, they let anybody who had not qualified (0-50 1st race 51-95 2nd race) into the second race as the weather had put a few people off.
I had to start on the very back row, behind the guys in qualifying line z2 !!
There were 400 finishers, so I would say about 450-500 starters, and I passed enough people to make 286th.
Not bad, and no injuries or broken bike parts.
My mate did not do the race.
Its odd, when you ride the track in the week, there are some real hard bits, and I managed to do them all by a few days, but in the race you just get jammed up and have to walk anyway!
I think I got a 1hr 30 in the race, but with nobody else on the track I think I could do it in 1 hour, so bad are the jams.

Andrew, Would you be able to estimate the whole cost of doing Mega? Rough estimation should do fine. Cheers
