My roommate was given an old yeti AS-r. Its yellow and as far as I can tell it is about a 2002 and has bushings on the main pivot next to the crank set. Anyone know where i can get a new pair or what size they are? maybe I can get them from a bushing company.

They are a standard item I believe. Track down an igus(?) catalogue, and get some measurements from the existing bushings.
These parts are not available from yeti anymore

So we managed to get a set of bushings from the LBS but the rear end is still sloppy. Is it possible the frame was run too long on bad bushings and ovalized the holes? how tight should the bushings fit?

They should be a good tight fit.
There should be no play or wobble in the bushings.
