UPDATE: Frank didn't like the blemish on the top tube so he is going to replace the whole tube! It would be ok if I wasn't going translucent with the paint and he wants it PERFECT. Delayed till January, heat treated again between Xmas and New Years. Since I have time, I am specing some parts! Some will come over from my Blackbuck: Blue ano Hadley through axel front hub/WTB Trail29 wheels built by ME Thomson Layback Seatpost 27.2 Truvatiiv Stylo 1x cranks Avid Juicy 7 brakes (considering other...any ideas?) Serfas Crest Tires (great with New Mexico's goathead thorns) New Stuff and options needing your expert imput: SRAM X9 1x10 "Narrow" Drivetrain, Derailleur with clutch!?! Blue ano low rise handlebar (no rise?) Seat?!? (I have an ugly WTB one) FTW Stem!

not a fan of Avid brakes... the latest generation Shimano stuff is excellent (SLX more than adequate, and very sensibly priced too) and i have a 780mm flat bar on my Big Top (& my non yeti full suss fwiw), i'm a wide/no rise evangelist

The Avids have been good, not perfect for sure. A bit noisy and I really haven't tested them to the fullest as far as braking. I will look at the SLX and XT...
The Azonic bar is a low rise in 800! I remember on my Yeti Ultimate having a bar I swear about 500mm across and Onza bar ends...my how things have changed!
I forgot to add I'm transferring over a White Bros LOOP fork which has been great so far.

I would second Rob on the brakes. I haven't owned any, but I found Avid hydraulics very fiddly to work with when I spannered at a friend's bike shop. He is very experianced and loathed working/ adjusting them. I have new generation Shimano Deore on my BigTop, no complaints, quite adequate on a hardtail. I'll be going with SLX on my next bike. A German magazine did an extensive test on brakes a few years back when the Ice Tech came on the market...showed the Shimano brakes performed really well, across there model range. Sorry, can't find/post a link right now.

The post Christmas sales are about to hit and I was thinking about Deore XT disk brakes. They seem like a good balance between price and quality and I know they will be on sale for sure! Anything comparable to them I should look at? Especially in blue anodized??? (just kidding!)

After delays, injuries and waiting the build is finally ON! Frank says don't call it yeti or anything just "classic" design!

The bike seemed to wander a bit at slow speed but it was so familiar, like my Pro FRO or my long-gone Yeti Ultimate. It took about 15 minutes to get used to it. It is so different from my previous 29er; (OS Blackbuck) it doesn't feel like a truck at slow speed. I took it down a smooth downhill at 25+ MPH and it was rock solid. The ability to change lines was incredible. VERY reminiscent of my older bikes. Despite all the delays and waiting it was so worth it! I think the old school geometry is fun on a niner.
