Hi guys, I was out racing the mega a couple of weeks ago (where it was super muddy!!) and I noticed that the rear end of my 575 had developed some up and down play. I'd had the bearings replaced last summer so I assumed one of the pivot bolts had come loose so I tried re-torquing these but they were tight enough. After this I had the main pivot bearings replaced by a mechanic and he basically said that the bearings had died, causing the main pivot pin to bind against the frame whilst the swing arm was rotating. Because of all the grit and the big hits that I was taking out in France this had actually caused the area in which the pivot pin sits (within the main frame) to wear away, thus resulting in the play I was experiencing. I don't want to ride the frame in its current condition because I wouldn't want to risk completely destroying it but I was wondering whether anyone knows of a way to fix this? Could I get the frame drilled out and then shimmed down to the correct size to allow the pivot pin to fit snugly again? Any suggestions of where I could get this done in the north west of England would be greatly appreciated and if anyone has any other suggestions of what the problem could be or how to fix it they would be hugely welcome.
Thanks for your help!

Hi
Basically because you've let the bearing seize up, you've killed the frame.
Not much you can do really.
Try a new pin.
I had this years ago on an ASX, my own fault for running knackered bearings.

Might be worth a call to BETD (their Staffs way mind) ... they have some experience with frame repairs and can manufacture parts etc.

Thanks a lot for your replies! Just took the swing arm off and I've discovered numerous cracks in the frame around the pivot hole. Could this have been caused by the bearing issue or do I have any chance of a warranty claim? Thanks again.

I'd get on to your shop and see what they can do for you.
Not sure if that's a 2 or 5 year warranty on those.
Maybe the pin started turning due to the cracks??
Let us know how it goes! Good luck and I hope they can hook you up.
