You can not compare the Britain to China - it beggars belief.
Britain was a party to the slave trade, but was one of the smallest countries involved, if you are talking of the enslavement of Africans, then you need to go back a long way in history, back to biblical times when slavery began and not by America o Europe but by the Arab nations of Persia, Egypt, etc, who were dealing in slaves for hundreds of years. go to the Slave markets of East Africa to see what happened.
As for rape and pillage, I wouldnt call trading with these countries rape and pillage, Colonial england did take a lot from these countries, but it was not in any way like China is now. The communist government is raping its country at an astonishing rate and will struggle to feed itself in years to come, which is why it sees place like Taiwan and Tibet as countries it wants back. not just the Economic benefis of a country like Taiwan. And as for corruption of the UK government, yes there is corruption etc, but we can vote for a new party and we do have freedom of movement and fredom of speech, which you would nuts yourself if you lost that.

some fair points Eddy...the simple point i am making is that all countries have something dodgy about them...why pick on China?
I remember an interesting documentary a few years ago where some twat of a british filmaker went to Poland and asked them to stop their heavy industry because of the pollution it caused. One Polish industrialist turned around and said "you've been allowed to do this since the industrial revolution, and have got very rich from it...and now it's our turn!'
The amount of pollution modern China is creating is shocking, but it is probably not far off the amount that the West has been creating for 100 years or more...if you look at thair carbon footprint, until very recently the agraian bicycle populace had a kiddies size shoe compared to the west's size 12's...unfortunately China will create giant shoes soon unless, you stop buying most of the things you own...

you are absolutely right about the pollution, our industrial revolution polluted right across europe, on a massive scale, and what China is polluting now is still behind us, however they will become the world largest polluter in a short time. I am just saddened that Western governments and industry simply see China as a means of getting cheap goods. It is not the fault of the consumer that goods are made in China, but governments and industry. I dont see a solution to it, it is just sad that China in particuar is destroying so much wildlife in the world.
