Hi
I hope you can help me because this is driving me crazy!
I've just recently built up a 2009 575 (carbon rear)frameset into my dream bike.So far so good......First couple of rides were sweet with no problems and a sublime ride.Then the creak started!Not a problem I thought probably the pedals...bit of grease etc
Nope Okay the BB ..stripped it down rebuilt it ....nope.Hmmm seatpost...nope.....ok headset......nope.Surely not the bearings as it's only done about 80 miles max?
The 'creaking' is loud and very annoying it only happens when I put pressure on the pedals in and out of the saddle to drive forward.If I stand on the pedals and bounce the bike it silent.Only when I try to propel the bike does this creaking begin.
If I want to show someone how loud it is I grab the rear wheel and using a pedal spanner ,and put pressure on the spanner and it creaks everytime.Its as if the rear end is torquing and creaking as it moves.
Any ideas how to remedy this?

Interesting problem. Still could be lots of things causing it.
Probably the best next thing to do, is to check all the bolts in the rear are tight. Did you check crank bolts too? Or does it do it in every chainring?
Try letting all the air out of the shock, and cycling the rear suspension, see if you can feel a tight spot or something.
Also check the rear dropout is tight, with the 2 little allen bolts.

This could even be the axle in the drop out.
However, it could also be the carbon / ally interface which would mean a replacement back end.
Best thing to do is to strip everything down and re-fit with a bit of grease etc.
check the bearings though.

Had exactly the same problem with mine, twice!
First time it was the shock bush - replaced and problem went away.
A month after that it was the rear wheel skewer. Removed, cleaned and greased and it's now ok...... touch wood!

is your cassette up fully tight? I've had that a couple of times on bikes, and only creaks under load

Check the rear mech and mech hanger! Clean and re grease, i had the same problem and this worked!
No problems since

i had exactly the same problem and it was my rear axle drop out.
Solution tighten the axle.
Also check the shock bushes as fox ones wear out quickly, but are cheap to fix
hope you get it fixed. Nothing more annoying

You guys Rock! I had the horrible creaking from the rear of my Yeti 575. I lubed the rear spindle (which I don't think was the cure) and I took off the rear derailleur hanger and lubed the bolts and the entire interface between hanger and the bike... Perfect! No creak. Unfortunately I'm not sure which of the two fixed it but I doubt that lubing the spindle would have that dramatic a result. Thank you for making my ride today!  |

Just identified that my creak was down to the front mech hitting the chain stay on drops. Metal plate is now knackered but least the carbon is in on piece! Make sure your front mech is seated high enough.
